Record/Vinyl + Digital Album
Limited edition 7" vinyl in a custom screen-printed sleeve.
One of the musicians on this 7", Anthony Poretti, recently passed away, and in honor of our dear friend and collaborator, 100% of the proceeds from this release will now be donated to the Detroit-based non-profit Seven Mile (www.umsevenmile.org). This organization conducts music, arts, and coding lessons for students in the Detroit area that don't have access to such things due to the lack of public funding. Seven Mile works to close that gap and allow students an opportunity for creative expression.
And in the spirit of what this great organization is working toward, we also think that Anthony wouldn't want lack of funds to get in the way of you hearing this music that we all worked on together. So we've set this up as a "pay what you can" model for both the digital download and the vinyl 7", as long as you cover the shipping for the vinyl. Bandcamp sets the lowest payment for a physical item at $1, so I also took $1 off the shipping charges to even that out.
Suggested price is $1 each for the digital downloads and $7 for the vinyl, but again, 100% of whatever you pay will go to Seven Mile (minus the small fees bandcamp takes out). We also recommend you donating to them on your own as well and also find similar organizations in your own community to support.
Here's the info on the music we made:
SIDE A - THE LEAVES - written by Dan Grissom
SIDE B - LONG HAND LUKE - written by Will Garrison
LIMBS was recorded in the spring of 2011 under the perigee moon featuring the members of both bands performing as one. Our bands had met each other the year before after each being told by mutual fans and friends that we should all meet. We became fast friends and played a few shows together and eventually even met up on tour to hang out and play wiffle ball on a beautiful black sand beach in northern California. Soon after, a plan was hatched to collaborate on a recording. We had two days to do this while Spirits of the Red City was in Some Say Leland’s hometown of Austin, TX after SXSW. Some Say Leland bassist Lindsey Verrill got the keys to a large band room at the school where she worked and we holed up in there for two days. The first day was spent playing through and learning the songs, eating cheap pizza, and laying on the floor talking. Then the second day was spent recording the songs and hugging as we parted ways again. It’s interesting listening back to these songs and seeing how open they both are despite having a lot of moving pieces. Both songs have moments of sparseness and also moments where everyone comes together to take full advantage of the amount of people in the room. We are very proud of how these songs came out and hope you enjoy them.
Musicians on both songs are:
Linky Barmore - vocals
Will Garrison - acoustic guitar / lead vocals on Long hand Luke
Dan Grissom - acoustic guitar / lead vocals on The Leaves
Stephen Orsak - electric guitar / vocals
Alyssa Overby - vocals
Jason Overby - guitar / banjo / vocals
Rachel Overby - upright bass / vocals
Anthony Poretti - drums and percussion / vocals
Adam Rader - electric guitar / acoustic guitar / vocals
Cole Roulain - drums and percussion / mandolin / vocals
Stephen Smith - piano / vocals
Lindsey Verrill - upright bass / vocals
James Waldo - cello / whistling / vocals
Recorded by Stephen Orsak of Wee Pink Sound in Austin, TX. Mastered by Collin Jordan of the Boiler Room in Chicago, IL. Packaging designed by Dan Grissom and screen printed by Robert Steel of Biscuit Press in Austin, TX.
The Leaves was written by Dan Grissom. Long Hand Luke was written by Will Garrison.
Both songs were arranged by all members of both bands working together.

The concept behind this album was that each band, living in different parts of the country, would prepare a song that the whole group of musicians would learn and play together, as one large band. There were two days to do it. Not because of any self inflicted rules, but because that's the only time both bands would be in the same city. The first day was spent working on arrangements and the second day was spent recording everything.
Eternally thankful for this masterpiece of an album. Alan, Mimi, and BJ Burton, your work will never be forgotten; I will carry this album with me for the rest of my life. ethantlambert
